The Lord Is A Great God: My Glory Will I Not Give To Another

The Lord is a great God; he is a great king above all gods, Ps 95:3.

With a sketch, a builder uses masonry and builds himself or herself a house in a field and plants a seed therein. It sprouts plentifully. The rain falls upon the house; a device therein turns a wheel on account of the rain. The planted seed also buds, the builder says this is “excellent”, because the house and the field yielded those things.

Then comes the rain mixed with snow and pellets: but the downstream waters together do not turn the device; the harvest is stayed, the builder says this is “terrible”.

Has the builder, though he or she built the house and planted in the field, control over the rain and the field? And the sprouted plant?Though the “excellent” things lasted, and if there were merriment, is it true that the rain came on its own, or the field sprouted by itself? No, it is not. The truth is that the Lord of hosts, the Lord, that is his name, made all things; He is the Living Eternal Almighty King:

I am the Lord: that is my name and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images, Isa. 42:8. Among the gods, there is none like unto thee, O Lord; neither are there any works like unto thy works, the Word writes. Let them praise thy great and terrible name; for it is holy, Ps 99:3.

Sing unto the LORD; for he hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth, Isa 12:5. That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord, 1 Cor.1:31. Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours, 1 Cor.3:21.

Making or carving a thing in order to worship it, is making an idol and worshipping nothing and the work of men’s hands, for an idol is nothing, according to the Word of faith. The Eternal Holy One and the Creator of all rules over all, who endures for ever and ever and cannot be likened unto any, nor is any beside Him, as the Word of God tells us.

In making the gods from wood, the Word writes: and the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith, deliver me; for thou art my god. They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see, and their hearts, that they cannot understand, Isa. 44:17-18.

And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understaning to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination?shall I fall down to the stork of a tree? Isa.44:19.

The faithful high Priest and the Lord of hosts does excellent things; terrible is his name:

He has done excellent things, this is known in all the earth, as it is written. By faith, all who believe are heirs to the promise, for there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise, Gal. 3:28-29.
